Please let us know if you made a decision to follow Christ today:
The good news of Jesus Christ
Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
Someone once asked a group of people the question, “What’s the best thing anyone has ever done for you?” And after a short pause, someone answered, “He died on a cross for me.”
The best part is, that act was not done for one person only but for every sinner just like us. And that is why the gospel is the good news. The knowledge that we sinned and offended God in the worst way, and He chose to take on the form of a human being and come and die on a cross and take the blame for all our actions. And when we hear what the price was for our offence, it would make sense to think that our response needs to big, exhausting and requiring a lot of hard work. To believe that you better start following every single rule and watching every step lest you lose this gift. But no, all He asks is that we put our faith in Jesus Christ, as Lord and savior and trust that His payment was enough. The bible puts it beautifully:
Ephesians 2:4-5 But God is so rich in mercy, and he loved us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!
There is not a single thing you can do to earn salvation. All you have to do is confess that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that from the moment God raised Him from the dead, the price was paid in full. This also means that all the guilt and shame that came with your past is completely done away with.
Romans 8:1-2 now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus. And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.
This is a life changing, eternity altering decision and should be treated with the reverence it deserves. You’re not signing up to a religion, you’re beginning a relationship with a loving and gracious Father.
This is just the beginning of a wonderful New Life in Christ! You will still go through hardships and trials – but now you have God to help you through them all. As you begin this wonderful journey with God and join this beautiful family, we would love to help you with some practical next steps to follow just to help get to know Jesus more:
Read your bible everyday
The bible is God’s word and is the best tool for you to grow in this relationship. Learn from it, memorise it, love it, live and spend as much time as you can everyday in it. We advise you to start with the translation you’re most comfortable with, as there are quite a few, and start in the new testament. We don’t recommend you go cover to cover the first time. You can also join the church reading plans, as this will make it a little easier for you to understand.
Any good relationship involves consistent and open communication. Praying is simply communicating with God. Be open, be relaxed and include Him in every aspect of your day. God cares about you and wants to be intimately involved in your life, so tell Him about everything; Your hopes, dreams, worries, frustrations, celebrations. Talk to Him.
Tell others about Jesus
You have the most precious thing, and so go out there and share it. People relate to real authentic stories, so don’t be afraid to be completely open about how things were for you before you got saved. How you found out about God and what your response was. And how your life has changed since.
Connect with other believers
Your new life is not one to be lived in isolation. Find a church where you feel at home, can invest your time, energy and resources in and can foster good relationships with other believers. It’s important to note that nobody’s perfect, and so no church will be either. But if you can learn and grow in your knowledge of God, and can build relationships with the believers there, then you might want to consider getting planted there.
You’re not in this life alone. Gods design is that we have others around us to guide and encourage us in our relationship with Him. It’s so healthy to get involved in a local church and join a home Bible study (we call them ‘circles’).
